why they're "better"

They are better mostly because of connections. Freshmen know the guys and girls from high school/hometowns/sports. This makes for tight friend groups amongst very popular kids. They then go to certain fraternities/sororities because of the people they know and are comfortable with. This makes them "top" because these are the strong houses that have been on campus forever and can develop those connections. I'm from Atlanta, so it kinda applies to me too with how many ATL people come here now, but nowhere on the level as kids from Mississippi and Memphis
