PLEASE PLEASE take this advice as I was once in your shoes and no exactly how to handle this situation. I am from the north, had zero connections and was not a legacy but I still ended up in a "upper" house. While all houses at Ole Miss are great (one of the best greek schools in the country), I would be lying if I said that there are not houses that are more desirable than others. The truth is that you will have a great experience at any sorority at Ole Miss but if you want to be in a more desirable house you need to get competitive. Try to get at least one recommendation per house. Plan out your outfits and research the sororities. This way you can plan for small talk and have questions ready for the girls during rounds so that you seem interested and so that the conversation never dies. You want to make it so that each sorority thinks you want to be there so that they all ask you back and then you essentially cut them. Make sure your social media is clean but presents you as a fun, interesting, nice, social, well rounded girl. When you are out at parties before rush, have fun but keep in mind that people will recognize you and you don't want to come off as a fool. You will probably meet girls in the dorms that can introduce you to actives, use this as an advantage to give a good impression. And please DO NOT tell freshman or others that you want a certain sorority or that you don't like a certain sorority. It will get back to actives and they don't want to waste a rush party spot on someone who they think does not want to be there. If you have any questions let me know below and I'll answer.
