I am lurking from another school but I had the same experience. I accepted my bid but kinda questioned where I was for the whole year, honestly. I didn't REALLY connect to my house until this year when recruiting as an active and had friends living in the house. I am so proud of where I am now, even though my house is considered "lower tier". We worked hard and got an amazing new mem class this year, so even if you don't initially love your house, you can make it better every year!
