First, OOS students do not make up the majority of students here. It's roughly 55-60% Mississippi and 40, maybe 45% OOS so the favor still lies with in-state students., even if just a bit. In-state students have actually increased in recent years due to increased outreach all over the state. OOS is dropping, I've known students who left after the out of state tuition went up, I think the recent racial issues, frat problems, and other serious issues have made some OOS people think twice. Plus there were students coming here, believe it or not, for the whole Game Day/Grove/football thing and now that football has been in the toilet, a bit of the shine is off. Sounds silly, but it's a selling factor for some. Second, if you want the Mississippi based houses - Chi O, DDD or KD, then you need connections unless you're the rare person who gets a bid which can happen. Rush is competitive to the point now that even Ole Miss legacies to the most popular houses aren't guaranteed a bid as they once were. And no, not everyone has a 4.0, but a lot of girls have moms, grandmothers or sisters who were members here. They're not all from Miss., they're from a lot of place sand they've come to Ole Miss to continue the family legacy. Most important is to be open to every house. The girls who don't do well are those who think they're "too good" for certain houses and then complain and drop out when they get released by the top tier or mid-tier houses. Every house is great here, be open to it.
