You'd be surprised at how many PNMs in the SEC don't get their first choice. I'm an alum and do a lot of recs for women going through rush, so I see this happen every year. One of my Ole Miss girls didn't get her first choice last year. She got her second and was so upset at first, that she almost didn't go to Bid Day activities. She did decide to go and has never looked back. She loves her chapter and soon realized that it really was the best place for her. That is often the case. The system really is designed to work so that PNMs end up in the best house for them. Another thing that I see happen a lot is that PNMs are very torn between their first and second choices and sometimes worry after Pref if they ranked in the best order for them. Whether they get first or second, they are usually happy and don't feel like they settled at all. I can't speak for those who get their third choice because, of the many girls I've done recs for, I've never had one get anything but her first or second choice. Good luck during your recruitment!
