I'll try: The houses do the choosing. If a house decides not to invite you back to the next round then it doesn't matter how high you ranked them, you are not getting an invitation. In fact, the houses have NO IDEA how you rank them, how about that? So that is not what your rankings are used for. Your ranking of the houses is used to ensure your schedule is as full as possible to replace the houses that release you. Note that this is WHEN houses release you, not IF houses release you. You WILL be released from houses you really like and ranked high. So, how do your rankings come into play? Well, suppose for second round, when you go from 11 houses to no more than 8, you think that the houses you ranked 9, 10 and 11 will drop off your schedule. But the next day you find that the houses that you ranked 1, 2, 3, and 4 dropped you. Well that is a shock, and you are upset, but there is good news! The houses you ranked 5-11 all want you back! So it turns out that there is room on your schedule for your lower ranked houses after all, so you get to go back to seven houses. It's not a full round of eight, but it gives you the most options you can have for that round at houses that WANT you! Yay! Moving on to the next round, you can have five houses on your schedule, so you rank the seven you went to today. You get your schedule back and one of your top 5 dropped you, and your number 7 house came off your schedule, leaving you with five houses. Yay again! Moving on to pref, you have ranked your five houses and the next day you get invitations from two houses who can see you as a sister and want to put you on their bid lists! Guess what? They are not your top 2, but that's okay because you ranked five and you got two back and you are going to prefs and ranking both and getting a bid at Ole Miss! YAAAAAAYYYY!
