I don't think this is the case. Usually sororities only invite top girls out for orientation. Not too many actives are in town over the summer and are available to take PNMs out every few days during their orientations. Therefore, there's a limited amount of PNMs they can take out each orientation. While getting an invite to go out during orientation doesn't mean they for sure want you/will give you a bid, it means they are for sure interested in you. Things might change from now until rush, you never know what might happen. But if they wanted your friends they would just invite them out. They probably wouldn't waste their time on inviting people they don't want.
