why not more houses

Poster Message:
It takes a tremendous amount of money/commitment to bring a new sorority to any campus. OM has a demanding, super competitive Greek system which can make it tough to colonize here. With more girls going through recruitment I think it will be easier in some sense to open a new chapter since it's not ideal for houses to get so huge (Tri Delta and other top houses have about 450 girls). Other factors: 1) New houses cost millions. Many national sororities will colonize on campuses where there are either no houses (dorms are used) or the cost of a house is dramatically less. For example, the new ADPi house cost $5 million, huge investment since there's no guarantee a new chapter will succeed. 2) Sororities need alums in the area to support a new chapter - tough going if you have few to none to help. 3) AT OM there's the issue of land - luckily for ADPi and Alpha Phi there was open land on Rebel Drive where 4 other sororities have houses. Not sure where future houses could be located, there's nothing I see near current houses. As odd as it sounds, that could play a role in a houses's success since any open land might be on the edges of campus in other areas, so not appealing location-wise, especially if it's a lone house in that area. 4) I don't think they will bring on new houses until they're sure ADPi & Alpha Phi are successful - which could be a few years.
