Oops didn't finish my post. Freshman are preferred as they have 4 years to put into the house. That said, go for it as a sophomore. Make sure you get to know as many girls as you can, get recs for each house. Some houses will likely be open to sophomores if they really like you so I encourage you to do it. And be aware how brutal recruitment can be for anyone, including the best connected freshman.
