First, different sororities have different rules re: afflicting a transfer student - they may have to vote on you joining their chapter. Usually not a problem, but be aware and that most friendships in a house are formed as pledges, so you'll re looking to "break into" existing groups. Not always an issue, though. Second - the Deep South culture here. More students are coming here from states outside the South, but it's still a fairly traditional school and Greeks dominate student life pretty much. Another example - I know someone from Colorado who was shocked at the "decorator dorm" rooms the Southern girls have - like from a magazine layout (even made national news last fall). What were your reasons for Ole Miss being your dream school? Was it from watching football games on TV and seeing the Grove tailgating, the pretty campus and quaint town of Oxford? Was it more about academics and your major? If it's from football games and tradition, I wouldn't necessarily pick a school for that. If it's just save to money, I'm sure there are schools closer to home that offer that because you need to consider the costs of flying back and forth, that the sorority costs are high, social life costs, etc.
