pretty much what that person said. keep in mind most circles and sororitys are picked on freshman year, so joining your sophomore year is going to be extremely hard. I'm sure the people during your visit here were friendly, but once you are a student here and circles are already formed, it's like a brick wall. there are a few exceptions, like if you are on the football team- they don't care about greek life, they are trying to go pro and their teammates are automatic brothers. pre-med in honors college- same trying to go to good med schools, good close group of smart friends. International students form big counties like china - again they form close bonds with each other.
