I have a friend who is at a small liberal arts school in the northeast and we've actually talked a lot about this. And their greek life is an entirely different experience all together. Fraternities have houses, sororities don't, although groups of seniors will rent off campus houses together. But I have to say their rush sounds tough and kind of hard. For one, it's not until sophomore year. So freshman year is all about getting to know people and your reputation. You know how people say don't go crazy before rush? Imagine that feeling for an entire year. The chapters are small, about 100 people. So quota is between 20-30. She says that of the 6 chapters on campus,1 is weak, the other 5 are all really strong but different. The partiers are in one, the athletes are in another, stuff like that. So she says by sophomore year, people know where they want to be and where they would fit in best but it's only 25 spots so it gets intense. She says it's hard to not take rush personally when it's such a small campus and you spend a year getting to know them. But she says not many people drop, they stay active all 4 years. I haven't been to visit. It sounds different. Not better or worse, but just completely different.
