welcome to Mississippi! To answer your questions, we make it a big deal, well... because we have nothing else going for us. It's kind of like this, for the longest time Los Angeles didn't have a football team. Well, they did, than the team left because no one cared about football. How is it possible that the 2nd biggest city in the USA doesn't have a football team? Easy. They have a lot of other things going on: beach, hollywood, etc. etc. so they don't care about football. Same here, except we have nothing else going on so we just make a big deal of sororities and don't you dare bash us again!
