They aren't being mean, they are trying to help you. You are at IU first and foremost to be a student, Greek life is extra. Your biggest misconception is that if you had .1 higher you would be getting a bid. About half the chapters have regulations that would automatically disqualify you ranging from 2.85 to 3.0. Every chapter will see you as a risk. When we see a pnm that has a very low gpa without a special circumstance, we see someone who couldn't maintain a B average without Greek life. Now add in chapter meetings, rituals, pc bonding events, philanthropy hours, and pairs three nights a week and we assume that would be too much for you to handle. Now you're probably thinking "but I would be different!" and maybe that's true (although statistically that's not the case) but at IU we have an overwhelming number of girls who want to join a sorority so when we have to choose between you and ten girls who have higher gpas (and many of them have things going on at home too), it's only fair if those girls are given first priority since they have proven that they could handle the school side of things. So like the poster above said: work on getting your gpa up, enjoy your time at IU, and try again next year!
