Like everyone said, recs aren't a huge deal compared to southern schools. However, being from out of state myself, I felt much more secure going through rush knowing that I had done everything I could to put my best foot forward before rush even began. Don't let stressing about getting recs get in the way of you getting a good gpa or having a fun first semester, but if you find you have some free time, definitely try to get a few for the houses you are interested in! Good luck!
