Its association. Beta Sig and Snu (and Delts) consistently pair with mid sororities Chi Phi tends to pair with mid/upper-mid sororities along with Phi Psi and Sig Ep. TEP, Asig, LXA, etc are pairing with lower mid and bottom houses. If Phi Psi suddenly started pairing with a bottom house, people would question whether Phi Psi was falling or the bottom house was rising. Even if the quality of members was to improve dramatically overnight it wouldnt matter socially if the association with a better sorority didnt happen too. That's the greek system social ladder game in a nutshell.
