Not always true. I do know women who have been cut from these "so-called desperate" houses. ASA has an excellent GPA, they did make cuts based on GPA. TPA may have a house to fill, but they made large cuts. ADPi is having an excellent recruitment and has women going to them and a wide range of chapters today.
