If you're from Chicago, MSU was your backup to Northwestern, Illinois, Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin ... maybe even Indiana? And 25% cheaper than the privates. I'm not hating on MSU, but over half my high school got in here. The rich kids that couldn't get into UofM went out of state. Midwest privates like Loyola, DePaul, Columbia, St Marys, Dayton are respectable. State has rep of being a party school full of degenerates, unfortunately.
