I love the concept of Greek Life, but going through recruitment this year showed me how flawed the system is. Parading girls around the town and having stiff conversations for 15 minutes means nothing. It is HEAVILY based on looks, if you party, and how cool you appear. There were MANY wonderful girls that I met that didn't get in because they weren't freshmen, or didn't look like a stereotypical sorority girl, or were quieter. As somebody who used to suffer from clinical depression last year and wanted to start over, I really am wary about the system. I have recovered, but someone in my shoes from last year could take a huge blow to their self-esteem when all they want is to make friends. It was still very painful for me hearing that I wasn't good enough when all I (and the 800 girls that dropped) wanted was friendship.
