hello! I am a California native originally from Monterey Bay, CA (Central Coast) and have lived in Cali my whole life. I currently attend SDSU (even though SJSU, CSUF and CSUN are all closer to home. This is why: - San Jose State is really inland. however, they’re really close to the Bay Area and they like to party a lot. not too much to do up there. - Fresno State is really affordable, but don’t usually have the best academic studies. Extremely inland and there’s absolutely nothing to do out there. - CSU Northridge doesn’t have a lot of appeal. almost none of my friends applied, but it’s in LA! for someone that isn’t from California, Los Angeles definitely has an appeal (Hollywood, Beverly Hills, etc) but most Californians stay away from there. It’s always super busy, traffic is horrendous, only the rich people live in nice areas because a majority of LA is in poverty. plenty of activities however! - San Diego State is definitely my highest suggestion. All biased here, but Southern California most definitely has a chiller “vibe” than Nor Cal does. Plenty of clubs on campus. this school really emphasizes student involvement... like... A LOT. there are soooo many resources and our motto is literally “Leadership Starts Here”. within the first 2 weeks on campus I joined 2 major-specific organizations, one community service org, a culturally-based org, and am in the pledging process for a community-service based fraternity. San Diego is basically Los Angeles without the heavy traffic and busy lifestyles. there are so many things to do down here. SDSU is also one of the most diverse CSU campuses (even though it might not seem like it at first, overwhelmingly white). there are tons and tons of Bay Area kids down here too so the cultural is really mixed. everyone you meet is super nice! sorry this was really biased. but this is what I know from being a student in the CSU system, a native from Central California, as well as having friends that attend a couple of those campuses. I hope this helps a lot (: good luck on your college apps!
