One of my uncles said he was “hazed” in a way that was actually supposed to bring you and your pledge class closer and wasn’t dangerous at all. They had everyone “anonymously” write down a traumatic life event/ sad / bad time in their life but ended up revealing who wrote it and what happened. The point was for them to emotionally bond and build their brothers up while also putting them in really uncomfortable positions for growth. My uncle said he was extremely uncomfortable at first but that it really did bring them closer, especially since he wasn’t used to being open with his emotions with other men. He’s still really good friends with a lot of the guys. But he also did say they were all forced to get buzz cuts and a tattoo of their letters so..
