Don't listen to anyone who tells you recs aren't important. They are very important. The sorority members who tell you they don't matter have absolutely ZERO idea what goes on behind the scenes during rush. I'm not going to get into the reasons why they matter, because at this point if you don't have them, it's too late. All you can do is relax and hope for the best. Plenty of girls who don't have recs get bids to great houses. So you don't NEED recs. However, if we're having a hard time deciding between two equally great girls, and one of them has a glowing rec and the other didn't get any, we will 100% go with the girl with the rec. It gives you an edge. But if you're a 4.0 student who is drop dead gorgeous, a legacy, has friends/connections to the house, you're probably already a top recruit and you don't really need the boost that a rec gives you. But for the majority of PNMs, recs are incredibly useful.
