All of the houses have rooms, some just also have sleeping porches. If you live in the sleeping porch you will also have a room in the house that you share with a roommate, where you can keep all your clothes and stuff and there's usually one sofa bed in them but you don't sleep in there. However there are also rooms in houses w/ sleeping porches that girls actually do sleep in, but those are usually reserved for exec board members or girls with the highest gpas and most merit points (something you'll learn about if you join a sorority). Sleeping porches are usually roomy and really not that bad-- everyone's very respectful and after a while you don't even notice that you're bunking in the same room as 10 of your closest friends. A lot of sororities at u of a have sleeping porches because the sororities have a lot of members but the actual houses aren't as big as the sorority houses in the south are. Also, if you don't like the idea you don't have to live in, only the 50 members with the most merit points typically get to anyways. You shouldn't base your panhellenic decision on aspects of the physical house, you should base it on whether you click with the girls in the house and could see yourself upholding the sorority's values and standards. Most of the top houses have sleeping porches, some houses don't for many reasons such as lack of necessity because of a smaller amount of members.
