Your best chance is NOW. Many houses have a "once cut, always cut" rule. You need to be very honest and realistic with yourself about why you didn't have a great rush this year and your chances of improving those things for your sophomore year: 1. Did you not get recs or strong recs? If so, HOW are you going to develop relationships with alumnae this year? 2. Were you a grade risk? UT is hard, especially for some of the small town kids who would never have been top 7% at a strong urban high school. HOW are you going to ensure you get a 3.5-4.0 range GPA this year? 3. Did you not have in-house connections at enough houses? If not, HOW are you going to build those friendships this year? Especially as the freshmen girls will be really wrapped up in their new sorority life? 4. Did you not have a strong resume? If so, HOW are you going to get involved on campus and earn leadership roles? Do you know what the revered organizations on campus are? You can't just join the French club and think you're a shoo-in sophomore year. 5. How is your personality compared to the houses you wanted? If you just plain don't fit or were seen as awkward, it's REALLY hard to overcome that "ding" against you. Bottom line, yes, some girls go through a second time with better results but you have to put on a FLAWLESS freshman year to do so....and not that many girls can pull it off.
