My advice to the freshies would be to do as you please but being in a cringe sorority is not easy. Boys make assumptions, girls make other assumptions but the outcome is the same. Color it whichever way you read it and you’ll be correct. Choose some genuine and nice girls you have morals and interests in common with. Even if they are “ranked” lower, who cares. You’ll still go to the same parties but at least you won’t hate chapter and you’re in-house events.
