I'll give you a breakdown of my personal opinion on the dorms 😊 For reference, I lived in Hardin my freshman year, then in my sorority's house sophomore and currently live in an off-campus house with friends! I personally loved how safe I felt when I was in my dorm so I will always recommend girl-only at least for your freshman year. SRD: Off-Campus, All girls, Variety of different sororities Pros - Gorgeous! Has far better amenities than Hardin and most on-campus dorms like a pool, gym, fun events, dining hall (I had a few friends live here my sophomore year and ate dinner here twice, the food is great and more variety than Hardin - like a typical dining hall). I would say it's about a 50/50 ratio of girls rushing to not rushing, and about a 70/30 ratio of freshmen. Cons - the location for me personally (pretty far from most of my classes and my sorority house, however most freshmen have classes all around campus so shouldn't be unreasonable). Hardin House: Off-Campus, All girls, Historically known for housing many "PKT" girls but has a decent mix of sororities. Pros - Most girls here rush! Obviously if you're looking for diversity then probably not the best choice, but it always makes it easier when you live with other people in your sorority and can get ready with and go to parties events together. I shared a double with a private bath with my roommate and we loved it! Probably about 90%+ greek. Cons - The amenities are not great, defo needs a reno, pretty far from campus and sucked when I had late classes and had to walk home alone. Food was decent but not as much variety as a typical dining hall. It has a snobby reputation but most of the girls I lived with were actually super sweet. Callaway: Off-campus, all girls, all freshmen (I think). Much newer than the other two. I've never been inside but all of the girls I know who stayed here absolutely loved it. On-campus recs: Duren, San Jac, Kinsolving. Other advice: 1. You are going to meet SO many new people regardless of where you stay, staying in an all-girls dorm will not stop you from meeting boys - and most have rules about men sleeping over so you never have to worry about your roommate and her bf! 2. Living in a certain dorm will not improve or impair your chances of getting into certain or any sororities, the best part about Hardin/SRD/Callaway is the community and being around people who have similar interests to you. 3. Submit applications to any off-campus residence at least 6-12 months prior to the start of your freshman year.
