Good informative post. I’m an older UT fraternity alum. Since you mentioned a couple of fraternities that were once bigger and top tier back in the day, without criticizing any fraternities past or present, here are some others that were also in the top 5-6 at different periods and had some “glory days.” Some are still on campus and some aren’t. You said Phi Delt was big in size, but they were also considered top tier for many decades until the 1980s or ‘90s. The same with ATO until the 80s and to a lesser extent Sigma Nu and Beta. Sigma Chi had many great decades as recently as a few years ago. For 40 years or so until the late 60s-early 70s Phi Psi and Deke were top houses. All of these fraternities along with most of the others competed against each other for varsity athletes and campus leaders. They all had notable UT football-baseball-basketball players, but Deke was especially known for them. They had good representation in the Cowboys, Spurs, student government, and other campus organizations. There’s lots of good history and prominent alumni with most or all UT fraternities. Again, nice post.
