UT Austin penalizes students from competitive high schools. The 6 % rule penalizes students from the better private and public schools. Hard to make that 6% cut off if it’s a 4.5 at your high school and you have a 4.4. You could have a perfect sat score; it doesn’t matter. It is ALL about class rank. Mid students from lame schools get right in. Maybe top 6 % at their lower achieving high school is a 3.8. Many who get in to Ivy League schools are denied at UT. So they may choose go to ACC for a year. UT and the state of Texas penalize you for being smart and going to a good high school.
