Typical question. I like Girl here's comment. And again, thanks for serving. If you meet the requirements, know the rules and have the spare time -- sign up and go through rush. Worst that can happen is that you find out that it's not for you. And it is a way to meet people - mainly guys. But be aware of the financial obligations if you intend to join. You can look them up on UT's Greek life website. To join and maintain membership in one of the fraternities at UT that is generally considered as being "relevant" on this website is around $3000 per semester, according to UT's website. Honestly, I can't imagine anyone who's been in the military at any grade above an E-3 would be willing to to put up with the crap involved in joining a social fraternity? But there may be some of the fraternities considered less costly (around $500 - $800 a semester) and less "relevant" on this site that may (or may not) be more suited for you and likely requires putting up with much less crap in joining. Honestly, if I were 24, I'd probably want to spend my spare time doing anything other than hanging out with a bunch of 18 and 19 year-old kids. And yes, you would likely be considered "old" by 18 and 19 year-old girls, who are typically the most socially active sorority participants. I've seen other people giving advice to veterans to first look into joining a veterans group on campus. If I were in your shoes, I'd look for something of interest that is academically related that has more members who are juniors or seniors -- people closer to your age group. Or maybe graduate student groups that are socially oriented. Good luck.
