After reading all the comments it strikes me that UT sororities are generally satisfied with an exclusive (and well stagnant) Panhellenic system. The "upper" chapters don't care what the newer or "lower" chapters are offering women without connections. They are about " who you already know" or "want to know" because of their status or wealth, etc. That's good for them. And they work very hard to sustain that club culture that prior members have created for them. The "lower" chapters are totally proud and love their orgs. for what they offer women coming here with smarts and goals. These women are looking for a classic sorority experience. And they offer this. Both tiers are grades smart. Otherwise they would not have been accepted to UT. Both have the money to pay dues, maintain a beautiful house, and generally all that goes with it. Sisterhood cultures differ a bit but not that much. Friends are friends. Some are for life. Will the system ever be open to expansion or change? Maybe, Maybe not. When leaders of both "tiers" visualize something better and then act on it. Something amazing could take place. (It's in their power to do so, even if they can't see it) As with most organizations: a system that is not growing is already fading. Not a terrible thing. Just not the way I think of UT.
