First of all, congratulations! Welcome to the Greek system. I was just as nervous as you my freshman year but joining a sorority was one of the best decisions I've ever made. So obviously college is a balancing act. You have to stay organized to stay on top of everything you want to do. That said, your sorority is a social outlet, where you can make new friends and go to fun sisterhoods and socials. In that sense, it shouldn't feel like an "obligation" but something you're happy to be part of! And of course you don't have to abandon your other friends. You'll just have a very active social life. Lots of girls have friends from their dorms, class and other student orgs. Your sisters will end up being your closest friends though! In terms of a time commitment, to start you'll have about two meetings a week (chapter plus your new member meeting). Outside of that, anything you go to is just for fun. It may seem overwhelming now but I promise it will get easier as the semester goes on. You have a security network now of girls who will take care of you - so if you're still feeling unsure, I'd urge you to talk to them! Reach out to your new member leader and I'm sure she'd be happy to help :)
