It might feel incredibly upsetting, but it's a mutual selection process. I totally remember being devastated at pref when I didn't get a a certain sorority back. But I went to the sororities that I did have and received a bid to a house that I (now) love. However, the first post is saying girls are going BIDLESS. The situation that you're describing is that the rushees didn't like the sorority that asked them back. That's a totally different story. Those girls did NOT slip through the cracks. It wasn't unfair---they chose to drop and not give the sorority that actually wanted them a chance. The system did NOT fail them, they failed the system. You're not guaranteed a bid when you go through rush, but if you maximize your options and keep an open mind, you will receive a bid somewhere 99.99% of the time with the RFM computer system.
