deferred recruitment

to live-in, and, if not enough upperclassmen, lower house numbers and fewer dues-paying members to offset costs. This keeps upperclassmen from missing a semester of involvement and, lets face it, having open formal recruitment in the fall gives the upperclassmen a disadvantage because most houses give a lot of favoritism and preference to freshmen. Also, I think the cold and snow and ice will discourage freshmen, especially if they can just wait another semester to rush and the summer offers no incentive to rush sooner/spring. Also, upperclassmen in fall formal, only for upperclassmen, gives a fair live-in disadvantage for earning live-in points because they have less time to live-in. Personally, I would really prefer it. PLus it is something to do for the current members when the weather sucks and there is nothing else to do. however, humo will be a big problem. Why not test this out after there is strong advertising for upperclassman. With all the complaining from freshman regarding not being enough space for them in houses they liked in the fall, upperclassmen formal recruitment will probably be well-attended this coming fall. I think it is worth a test-run year, except for unfair advantages for freshman that make friends with people already in houses and underground rushing.
