I am currently a freshman and intend on rushing in the spring, or next year in the fall. I have made an effort to go to as many fall rush events as I could to get tickets know the girls to help me figure out what where I'll be the happiest, however I haven't been able to make it to any. So I am looking to hear from the greek community about some of the issues that are most important to me to see if I should follow my heart or if greek life at Montclair isn't for me. Firstly, I want to join an org that takes greek life SERIOUSLY. My ex went to a different school and he is a TKE and he told me he didn't really like being in a fraternity and did not take it seriously. Joining an greek org is a pretty significant time and finical commitment and I don't want to join one where my sisters will take it as a joke, but at the same time I also don't want to be in one where everyone takes themselves too seriously. There needs to be a balance. Secondly, what are social events like? One of the main benefits of joining a sorority is the networking opportunity. I'm in between joining a NPC or D9 sorority only because I want that lifelong sisterhood, and NPCs typically only give you a limited membership whereas D9s give you life long but those post grad experiences aren't mutually exclusive. Additionally, from the research I've done a lot of people who were in greek life say it is very hard to stay active as an alumni (this seemed to be the same across all different types of orgs) so something that I want to weigh heavily into my decision is what my social calendar will look like. These are my two main things that are make or break factors, any other things I don't like I can get past. Please be harsh! Don't sugar coat things, I'm dead set on rushing I just want to know where I stand because I was debating on transferring to Rutgers, because the social scene here is dead. However I do love it here, and I like the sisters and brothers I've met so far so if I the greek community here is able to make up for the campus being dead all the time I want to stay (especially bc Montclair has a really good program for my major even though it isn't a great school, but part of what I am paying for to be on a college campus is a social experience and so far...things aren't looking too hot)
