The last commenter put a positive spin on things, and this might be the whole truth for her chapter. However, I have friends in other sororities who spent a lot of time at their chapter houses when they were pledging. Whether or not mixers were actually mandatory, members made pledges feel like they needed to be there. Beyond that, a few sororities on campus get away with (relatively minor) hazing. Pledging those houses will put larger demands on your time. Rush also takes up a lot of time. But, of course, that's temporary.
