So a lot of the future rushes who read this website (please stop this website has so much self ranking and people over reacting) you’re probably confused on the difference between IFC, AAIFC, and rogue houses. IFC: This is your typical fraternity representation on most campuses. Frats here are monitored by the school. It’s honestly your safest bet for winding up in a decent house, sororities are encouraged to mix with frats on the IFC because they are in good standing with the school. They have hazing and party rules that all frats on the IFC must abide by. There are five good frats (Phi Psi, Fiji, Pike, Chi Phi, Lambda) that are apart of it and 3 or 4 more solid options that are on the IFC. The IFC also protects it’s frats from police busting parties. AAIFC: This is frats that disaffiliated from the school and started their own organization. What does this mean? Essentially less rules. There is no sopro or suspensions that the school can enforce on the AAIFC. There parties can have hard alcohol, which is a huge plus but also comes with liability. Their parties have less protection from the police and sororities can be placed on sopro for mixing with them. They have 2 good houses (OX and AEPi) and one solid option (D Chi) that are members. Rogue: Rogue frats only have national backing and that’s it. These frats have been kicked off for hazing and besides two, none of them exist anymore. They essentially have no rules. DKE and ASig are the only two rogue frats that exist. DKE has done pretty well since going rogue, but each pledge class gets a little weirder than the previous, but they seem to be fine. A Sig has been rogue for 1 semester so it’s too early to tell if they’ll survive (I don’t think they did well at all during winter rush which is a bad sign but we’ll see fall Rush is probably most important for them), it is however very rare that rogue frats survive. I would be most cautious of rogue frats during rush, cops bust a lot of their parties, sororities are not allowed to mix with them and they also cannot have a PGP which essentially means no tailgates (DKE does joints so they still have tailgates). Have fun with rush, check out a lot of houses (it’s going to be hard to rush more than 5 as Michigan takes much smaller pledge classes than most schools, 3 or 4 is a good number). That rush group you joined on Facebook doesn’t mean anything a lot of frats don’t have one and the ones that do won’t know who you are, go to the open houses in the fall, go to parties welcome week, meet cool guys, and stay off of Greek rank. Good luck
