Merger explained

Poster Message:
Sig Eps membership resigned from their fraternity because of a new Sig Eps nationals rule making all chapter houses free of alcohol and substances. No alcohol is the big problem. The Sig Eps merged into DU because they did not have this restriction that makes it difficult to have cool parties in a chapter house. DU will have this rule by fall 2020, but by then Sig Eps can move on and merge with another fraternity that doesn't have the rule. Maybe the DU members will leave with them at that time? For now, being part of DU allows Sig Eps to continue having social events with sororities serving alcohol and doing everything else they did in their former chapter house. DU welcomed Sig Eps because it gave DU more members to have better mixers with sororities and higher social ranking relevancy plus more dues revenue. Dues payments are off the books cash to the local chapter and nothing for the nationals since the Sig Eps cannot officially join DU because DU national rules prohibit previously initiated fraternity members from joining. So, Sig Eps is windfall cash for DU. UM IFC allowed the merger so they can pretend that Sig Eps are now DUs which relieves them of responsibility of any additional rules enforcement against the former Sig Eps members which they don't want to do because it hurts friendships in Greek life. Being part of DU does not make Sig Eps members a "rogue" fraternity according to the IFC so the Sig Eps can continue to have social events with sororities by claiming that the are really "DU" members now. Panhel does not allow sororities to have social events with "rogue" fraternities but since Sig Eps now claim they are "DU" members it's o.k. for sororities to continue to mix with them. Everyone wins in the merger. Life goes on as normal. The only ones upset are the Sig Eps nationals that lost dues payments and local alumni who lost their active chapter's lease revenues and therefore cannot afford to have a chapter house, but but one cares what they think because they are not on campus. Got all that, bro?
