The "pit" is the huge backyard where both SAE and Phi Psi pregamed this past year. They didn't share the same houses, but houses they owned shared the same backyard. This year Theta Chi is taking the Phi Psi senior house, and so this coming year it will be SAE and Theta Chi in the "pit." From what I've heard, it sounds like Pike is trying to make moves to also get into the "pit." From my own experiences, generally everyone ends up in the "pit" after their own respective pregames.
