Phi Rho Alpha (Phi Alpha) is a local sorority that has a house on Baldwin Ave. They are not part of Panhel or Michigan Greek Life. Pros: Phi Rho Alpha - Local sorority can mean lower dues and fewer rules - Local sorority can mean more opportunity to shape your organization as a whole - Mixers with fraternities - Sisterhood - More date parties/social events Cons: Phi Rho Alpha - Not part of Panhel or Michigan Greek Life - Smaller alumni network - Fewer rules and no regulation from the Office of Greek Life can lead to hazing and other shady practices Toss Up: Phi Rho Alpha - House (depends on if you want to live in one or not) Phi Sigma Rho (Phi Rho) is a national sorority that does not have a house on campus. They are part of Panhel and Michigan Greek Life. Pros: Phi Sigma Rho - National sorority (larger alumni base, more regulation) - Panhellenic Council and Michigan Greek Life member - Mixers with fraternities - Sisterhood - Academic focus creates a commonality between sisters - No hazing Cons: Phi Sigma Rho - Only accepts science/engineering majors - More rules and regulation because of nationals and Panhel - Sometimes confused for a professional organization, but reputation seems to be improving on campus - Lowest GPA in Panhel Toss Up: Phi Sigma Rho - No house (depends on if you want to live in one or not) Both houses hold winter recruitment.
