These are spot-on! I didn't know a single upperclassman going into rush and still got into a top house. Its all about how you present yourself during rush - if you make a great impression and fit in at a certain house, you're likely to get a bid from that house. There are so many freshmen that its impossible for upperclassmen to notice and remember everyone so don't worry about getting older girls to notice you too much, cause most people are in the same position you are. I think that the best advice for first semester is just to lay low and have fun, and try not to do anything noticeably bad as the posters before me said. But the main thing is not to be rude- you never know if the girl who bumped into you at bruff and made you spill your water is actually in the sorority you're dying to join. We don't always wear our letters around, and people tend to remember the times people are rude to them, and its better to not be know at all going into rush than it is to be know for being rude! Have fun this semester, and don't worry about rush until January!
