I graduated last spring, and I am upset about a ton of things that happened in college. One of them was not getting into a single chapter. I rushed three times and been to so many different chapters, and none wanted me. I always ended up getting pulled aside into some room and be told I wasn’t getting a bid. I was never one of those people who found a truly family or felt a place of belonging. It is frustrating seeing others get multiple bids and having a hard choice to pick one. At the end of the day, the rush process is flawed. Rushees and chapters only have a short time to get to know each other. You always hear others about finding their true friendships in their fraternity. You always hear about the adventures they been on and their memorable experiences. You always see guys walk around in rush shirts around campus. I personally will never get to experience any of that. People argue over how selective the process is, but the reality is that we can all agree not 100% of people who rush get into a fraternity. It shouldn’t be controversial that while many people are happy with rush, a lot of people aren’t too. Some may say I just wasn’t meant for Greek life, but it is just so hard to know what when I was never even given a chance.
