It actually used to be much harder to get a top sorority if you were a junior. I think now there is some sort of requirement that they take a certain percentage of junior transfers? I'm not sure how it works, but I do think there is some quota- maybe ask Panhellenic for details. The top four houses you mentioned are hard to get a bid from, no matter what your year. Everyone will tell you to keep an open mind and that's actually good advice. But, a girl who comes across as confident and easy to talk to will have the best advantage. (Besides of course, being pretty. Let's face it...) However, I do think it's good to have an idea about each house ahead of time. It's just a matter of being prepared, although many will disagree I'm sure. Kappa does tend to be known as a rich, elitist sort of house. Alpha Phi has a lot of cheerleaders and dancers DG is your pretty , accomplished girl next door Theta has many athletic girls These are generalizations for sure!! There are many types of girls in each house. I personally think it just helps to have an idea of what you're walking into, and taking some of the control in terms of where you think you'll fit the best. Good luck and don't be too bummed if you get a middle tier house instead. They still have lots of fun, great sisterhood, and events!
