Legacies are important to chapters for many reasons including because statistically they stay involved all four years. (Higher retention) Legacies already have an emotional tie to a house before they walk through the door. It is so important for houses to keep this in mind during selection, as the strength of a house is only as strong as its members. Some houses value legacies more than others. Yes you have to look past what your house perceives as the right look, grades etc for your house but you gain a stronger commitment & sisterhood. I know there are several TTU houses that embrace this which is awesome!! Unfortunately, when you have 19-21 year olds making the selection decisions they don’t always see big picture (I didn’t) This is why chapter advisors have such an important role. To enlighten members during the process. Sounds like you really wanted to be, and would have been a great Pi phi! Sorry they didn’t value your legacy status and what that meant to you & could have meant to them (you had a loyalty to them before you walked in the door) So happy though that you found a home that does value you! You will love Greek life!
