It kinda depends on if you've been initiated or not. You can go through recruitment again if you've accepted your bid but not initiated, but only after one calendar year. So, the new sorority colonizing won't be available to you until the fall. However, if you have been initiated, you can't join another Panhellenic sorority ever. Point blank. If you do decide to drop, it is a permanent decision, but there are many other groups on campus who have involevement and close bonds. But keep in mind that "the grass is always greener on the other side". It takes time to find your niche in your chapter, so put your 100% effort into it, give it a few weeks, and drop before initiation if you really can't feel it. As for whether or not it's rude: yes, it's really rude, especially if you get a big who gives you lots of love and presents, and if you say something like "I dropped XYZ sorority to join ABC because XYZ sucked" or whatever. If you do this, give the presents back, explain how you thought colonizing would be a great opportunity, and be nice. Also, keep in mind that you're not guaranteed a bid to this new colony when you're eligible for their recruitment in the fall.
