Hi, my brother and I are atheists (though not militant ones) and we wish to rush a fraternity and sorority respectively (I am obviously a girl.) I heard that some fraternities and sororities have initiation rituals that forbid initiations of atheists and require a belief in God, as many fraternities and sororities descend in terms of ritual from the Freemasons, who required a belief in god. Are there any fraternities or sororities that do not require a religious belief? If so which ones? I would feel terrible if my brother and I pledged only to find out after months that we couldn't be initiated if we were atheists. Thanks sooooo much ahead of time. C.J.
