Tons of sophomores make it into chapters every year all over the board tier-wise. I'm going to ask some tough questions, though: (1) Did you get dropped by ALL chapters completely, or did you get asked back to enough chapters that you were able to drop some early on, and then got dropped by the rest? There are girls that get asked back to everybody, so they drop the lower and even some mid-tier chapters, but then can't quite make it if their final 5 are, say, Pi Phi/DG/Kappa/Alpha Phi/Theta, but they could have made it into ADPi, Gamma Phi, etc if they had still had those options. In that case, it's honestly partially being bad luck. I think girls like this get screwed over the most, but you should be fine next year. Or did you get dropped by ALL chapters completely, even those that are at the bottom? If it's the second you can still rush next year but something went wrong and unless you fix it, the same result will happen as a sophomore. Good news is it's fixable. Think hard...could it have been poor social skills, fitness, inappropriate style, bad GPA (for most sororities even if they don't personally care, their nationals make them drop certain GPAs)? Formal rush is inherently superficial. You can't dive deep into people's personalities when there are 2,000 girls to sort through. So, fit, stylish, extroverted girls dominate rush. It's just the way it is, but it can be gamed. If it's the second, look into COBing in spring too.
