If any girls are on here trying to scope out if they want to join a sorority, don't let these negative things stop you! I know that dues vary from sorority to sorority, and its often not something that is disclosed during the recruitment period (it doesn't seem that natural to jump straight into finances before making real connections with girls). And coming from a sorority that has some mandatory stuff, it really all works out for the best. You learn how to balance your time, push yourself to try new things, make new friends outside your sorority, and more often than not if you are mature enough to organize your life around them (which again, is for your benefit now and in the future) then you not only will have a good balance between academics and life, but you can actually see yourself doing so much better in school. Many girls have seen an increase in their GPAs since being in a sorority, there's so many resources at your disposal to help facilitate that. Exchanges are also never mandatory, and semi and formal don't have to be extra costs if you know how to keep costs low (exchanging past dresses with sisters, doing your own hair and makeup, etc...)
