Hey SO many girls I know join sororities in their first year for the very reason that they live off campus and are commuting! It's easier to make friends if you live in first year residence because there are so many people your own age that you're living with, while those who commute often have difficulty meeting people/making close friends/feeling connected to campus. Joining a sorority is an awesome way to combat that! You have an amazing community to turn to, a chapter room to hang out and study and make food in after classes, and there will always be girls to study with, get coffee with, and walk to meetings with if you ever need to stay late :) Drinking is 100% optional, you're not allowed to drink at all in your chapter room/in your letters and most people only do it at the frats
