There are some houses that might cut you when they find out you're an engineer. They know engineering is hard and will take up a lot of time (maybe even leading you to drop). However, that obviously doesn't mean it can't be done. College is hard, in part because of classes, but largely because of the difficulty of managing your time. If you can learn to prioritize and not be lazy, you will be fine. I am in engineering and I went out every weekend and still made Dean's List. If a house gives you a bid, they want you. They also want you to succeed and keep their GPA up. They won't force you to go out any night, let alone the night before an exam. Don't wait until sophomore year - classes only get harder as time goes on (especially in engineering).
