My younger cousin is a freshman and going through formal recruitment right now. She and I spoke this evening and she told me about the rankings she found on this website and wanted to know my opinion on different houses. I graduated from Purdue 10 years ago so I'm not even going to pretend that I know what current reputations are. But I'm going to share the same advice I gave her. When I rushed, "social media" wasn't really a thing. Many sororities and fraternities didn't even have websites. I truly went into recruitment with an open mind because I didn't know anything about good/bad reputations or which houses were top/middle/bottom tier. All I knew is that Purdue was a really big school and I hardly knew anyone. I was looking for a second family at Purdue. I went through recruitment and pref'ed at Theta, Tri-Delt and Sigma Kappa. I didn't know at the time, but those houses were likely considered middle or lower tier. I liked all three houses, but I honestly made my choice based on one of the girls who rushed me. I felt like we had a lot in common and just knew she was someone who I would be friends with. It turns out I was right. She became my Big Sis and a lifelong friend. My advice to all PNMs is to forget about the "rankings" and focus more on the sisterhood and where you see yourself fitting in.
